A Britain’s Got Talent audience member caused chaos when he decided to try his luck at asking Simon Cowell for an audition.

During a break in auditions for the ITV talent competition in Blackpool, singer Max Fox yelled out from the crowd, “Simon! Simon!” prompting the baffled music mogul to turn around in his judge’s chair and ask: “What?”

Fox shouted: “19 years I’ve tried to get in front of you and I’ve never ever had the chance. Can you give me one opportunity to show you what I got?”

Two security officers in black suits stepped in to block Fox’s path as he tried to push to the front of the audience, before Cowell stopped them, saying: “No, it’s okay.”

In a teaser video for Saturday’s episode, he was then seen beckoning Fox forward, stating: “Come here. Are you serious? Hang on... is this a wind up?”

Fellow judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon looked equally bemused, before suggesting that Fox could perform at the end of filming after the other acts.

Fox carried on pleading his case, saying, “I feel like it’s my last time!” prompting Cowell to grant him an audition, saying: “Alright... Go do it!”

The record label producer couldn’t resist asking again: “So this isn't a set up - you just chanced it?”

“I just chanced it. I don't know how I got to the front of the audience, I just got lucky with this jacket I think,” Fox replied, gesturing jokingly to his pale green blazer.

He then urged Cowell to “trust” him as he took the music manager’s hand in stepping over the barricade and onto the stage.

Eight acts will compete the semi-final rounds, which are spread out over five weeks and will kick off in London on Saturday, April 26.

For the first time in its 18 series history, the golden buzzer will now be available to use during the live rounds.

Each week, one of the four judges - Cowell, Holden, Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli - or presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will be given control of the buzzer and get the chance to send an act straight through to the grand finale.

The semi-finals will now also air live ever Saturday night, with the public able to vote for their winning act of the night who will gain a place in the live final.

The winners of the talent show will secure a £250,000 cash prize and a chance to appear at the Royal Variety Performance in November.

Britain’s Got Talent continues tomorrow night at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX
